Overview
A turnaround is the most expensive fortnight in a facility's year. Every day of overrun is a day of lost throughput, and almost every overrun traces back to planning that was never tested.
Century Solutions supports downstream and midstream operators through the full turnaround cycle - scope development, planning, execution and close-out - for refinery units, gas processing plants and production facilities.
Our approach is deliberately unglamorous. We build the work scope from inspection data and reliability history rather than from the previous turnaround's scope list, challenge every item that cannot justify its place on the critical path, and lock the scope early enough that late additions become a decision rather than a surprise.
During execution, progress is measured against the plan daily and reported honestly. A turnaround that is running three days late in week one is recoverable; the same turnaround discovered to be three days late in the final week is not. We would rather deliver uncomfortable information early than comfortable information too late.
Capabilities
What this service covers
-
Scope development and challenge
Building the work list from inspection findings, reliability data and risk ranking - and removing the items that do not earn their place.
-
Turnaround planning and scheduling
Critical-path scheduling, resource levelling, contractor packaging and readiness milestones tracked from long before the shutdown date.
-
Execution management
Day-to-day field supervision, progress measurement, contractor coordination and change control during the event.
-
Shutdown and start-up support
Isolation planning, decontamination coordination, and sequenced start-up support to return the unit to production safely.
-
Inspection coordination
Scheduling and integration of inspection scopes so that findings feed the work list rather than disrupting it.
-
Close-out and lessons learned
Cost and schedule reconciliation, deferred work registers, and a documented basis for planning the next event better than this one.
For a major refinery unit, credible planning starts 12 to 18 months ahead. If you are inside six months and the scope is still moving, the priority shifts to protecting the critical path - which is a conversation worth having now rather than later.
Both models work. We can manage your existing contractor base, or package and manage the trades ourselves. What matters is that one party owns the schedule.
