Safety & environment

Everyone has a safety manual. What matters is whether the crew on the floor at 3am believes the stop-work authority in it is real.

Our position

Most incidents are foreseeable. Most foreseeable incidents are preventable at the planning stage.

That is not optimism - it is what incident investigation consistently shows. The hazard was known, the control was understood, and the gap was between the plan and what actually happened on location.

So our safety programme concentrates on the planning stage and on the mechanisms that let a crew intervene when the plan and reality diverge. Job safety analysis that is done honestly rather than signed retrospectively. Permits that carry meaning. And a stop-work authority that people use, because they have watched colleagues use it without consequence.

We measure leading indicators alongside lagging ones. Recordable rates tell you what already happened. Stop-work events, near-miss reporting rates and JSA quality tell you what is about to.

The programme

Six pillars

  • Stop-work authority

Every person on every location - our crew, your representative, any third-party vendor - can stop a job without seeking permission and without consequence. Stops are recorded and reviewed as leading indicators, not as failures.

  • Planning before execution

Job safety analysis, permit-to-work and pre-job briefings run before work begins. If the JSA cannot describe how a task will be done safely, the task does not start.

  • Competency, not attendance

Training is assessed on demonstrated competency rather than on hours logged. Role-based competency matrices govern who is permitted to perform which tasks.

  • Learning from near misses

Near misses and low-consequence events are investigated with the same rigour as injuries, because they are the same events with better luck attached.

  • Contractor alignment

Bridging documents align our safety management system with yours before mobilisation, so there is never ambiguity about which standard applies on location.

  • Environmental stewardship

Spill prevention, waste minimisation, emissions reduction and site restoration are managed as operational requirements rather than as reporting obligations.

Environment

A smaller footprint, by engineering rather than by press release

Every measure below has a number attached to it, and we report those numbers to clients who ask.

  • Pad drilling - multiple wells from one surface location, reducing land disturbance, road building and traffic movements per well.
  • Efficient power packages - AC VFD rigs with dual-fuel capability cut diesel consumption and associated emissions against mechanical equivalents.
  • Water and waste management - closed-loop systems, recycling where feasible, and documented disposal through licensed facilities.
  • Spill prevention and response - containment, response planning and trained crews on every location rather than a plan in a binder.
  • Site restoration - locations returned to agreed condition, with restoration planned before construction rather than after abandonment.
  • Geothermal capability - the same well construction discipline applied to renewable heat resource development.
